What to Do if You Notice a Reckless Driver

On the 15th of September, around 11:30 at night, Spokane Valley law enforcement responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident that occurred on South University Road at 35th Avenue. The person who called in the accident reported hearing a vehicle traveling at a racing speed headed south on S. Dishman Mica Road. The witness then heard the screech of tires and a loud crash.

The witness then headed to the scene of the accident and attempted to help passengers and provide additional details to law enforcement. Both Spokane Valley firefighters and AMR workers arrived to provide medical assistance.

When law enforcement arrived, they noticed an Audi rolled over onto its top. Four adults were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, and the driver has been listed as a 21-year-old.

Initial reports suggest that the Audi was headed north on S Schafer Road at high speed. After the vehicle crossed onto S Dishman Mica Road, the Audi continued heading north on S. University Road. The driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to negotiate a curve. The Audi ended up leaving the road, colliding with a retaining wall at University and 35th Avenue.

The investigation later determined that probable cause existed to arrest the driver for operating a vehicle while impaired. A sample of the driver's blood was then obtained for testing. Meanwhile, the passengers were transported to a nearby medical facility with what are believed to be severe but not life-threatening injuries. The third passenger was transported to the hospital as merely a cautionary step. The driver was also transported to the hospital, but after receiving medical clearance, he was moved and booked into the Spokane County Jail for two counts of vehicular assault.

One of the most common questions that people ask is what can be done to report a dangerous or reckless driver they notice on the road. Fortunately, there are several ways to report dangerous drivers.

Hold Onto the Evidence

If you plan on reporting reckless driving, you should keep a record of the evidence. You should make sure to record your impressions of how the event occurred. Write down any elements of danger or risk, including speeding or missing traffic signals. You should also write down details about the vehicle's make, model, color, and any other distinguishing features.

Contact Law Enforcement Immediately

To keep everyone safe, you should report dangerous driving as soon as you can. If you are one of the passengers in the vehicle being driven dangerously, you should also do it as soon as possible. You can even send an email to "[email protected]" with the vehicle's details. This website is maintained by the federal government's General Services Administration.

Instead of emailing this site or in addition to, you might also dial 911 and share the inputs with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

File a Complaint Online

By logging into the "Report Dangerous Drivers" website and filling out the pertinent information, you can file a complaint online. You can check the DMV website of Spokane or the location where the vehicle is registered. You might need to list your own email to support this complaint. You can then visit a Department of Motor Vehicles office and complete a form.
