What are the Deadliest Types of Spokane Accidents?

Posted by Russell West | Jul 31, 2020 | 0 Comments

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office recently commented that a man was killed when his vehicle crashed into the yard of a Spokane Valley home. Law enforcement and fire personnel arrived at the scene of the accident where they found the man's vehicle in the yard. Emergency responders as well as people in the area attempted to save the man, but the Sheriff's Office comments that he was severely injured and passed away at the scene of the accident.

An initial investigation by the Spokane County Sheriff's Office showed that speed and impairment played a role in the accident. This event marks the second fatal crash that Spokane County deputies have responded to in the last two days and the 13th deadly car accident in the Spokane area this year. This number marks a slight increase from 2019 when there were only 12 accidents involving fatalities in the area.

Many motorists fear that they will be either seriously injured or killed in accidents involving another vehicle. While it might be alarming to consider, it is impossible for many of the most deadly types of accidents that occur in Spokane to be avoided. Appreciating the dynamics involved with each type of deadly accident can help you utilize defensive driving strategies to better protect yourself. The following reviews some critical details about the most dangerous types of car accidents.

Head-On Collisions

One factor that makes head-on collisions so deadly is the substantial force generated by the vehicles involved. Whether a motor vehicle driver collides with another vehicle, a wall, a pole, or any other stationary object, the resulting damage can be life-changing and even deadly. Most head-on collisions occur when the driver of one vehicle crosses the center-line of traffic and impacts a second vehicle. Two of the best ways of minimizing the risk of these acts is to maintain an adequate distance from other vehicles and to pay close attention to the driving patterns of the motorists around you.

Rollover Accidents

Mostly involving SUVs, pickup trucks, and vans, these accidents are often devastating in nature because the tops of vehicles are not nearly as protected as the front. These accidents also pose the risk of a motorist being ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. By avoiding high-speeding on sharp curves or in dangerous weather conditions, a motorist can greatly decrease their chances of ending up in a rollover.

T-Bone Collisions

Sometimes referred to as broadside collisions, these accidents involve one vehicle's front crashing into the side of another vehicle. The danger presented by these accidents is that there is not nearly as much protection on vehicles at the side as there is on the rear or front. Doors and other barriers found at the side of the vehicle are flimsy and do little at softening injuries. One of the best ways to avoid one of these accidents is to exercise caution before entering an interaction. Many t-bone accidents occur because motorists immediately take the right of way without analyzing surrounding traffic.
