Staying Safe While Riding at Racetracks

A Spokane Valley man recently passed away following a crash that occurred at the Stateline Spokeway. The 65-year-old man in question experienced a heart attack, which experts think caused his vehicle to collide at Findlay Stadium Stateline Speedway, which is close to Pear Falls.

At the time of the crash, the man was traveling on the racetrack when law enforcement reported he experienced a heart attack, struck a wall, and flipped his car several times. The injured man was transported to the nearby medical facility of Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene, where he was put on life support. The man was later taken off life-prolonging measures and passed away several hours later, early in the morning following the crash.

A post by Stateline Speedway commented that risk exists every time people drive on motor vehicle tracks. When serious accidents happen, it shakes people to the core.

The Dangerous Nature of Racing and Other Sporting Events

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that catastrophic injuries routinely result from sporting-related incidents. Catastrophic injuries are severe and permanent. Many times, catastrophic injuries routinely involve traumatic brain injuries as well as spinal damage. Catastrophic injuries can also result in victims becoming disabled.

Many victims of catastrophic injuries place themselves in harm's way due to the nature of their professions, like car racing, horse racing, and football. The Centers for Disease Control reports that catastrophic injuries happen more often in some types of workplaces than others.

Safety Tips for Avoiding These Types of Injuries

By following some helpful strategies, you can go a long way toward preventing catastrophic injuries. The following are some of the helpful steps that you can take:

  1. Drive safely. Pay attention if you are driving, which means doing your best to avoid any distractions you encounter. You should also make sure to wear your seat belt and make sure that any passengers do, too.
  2. Wear a bike helmet. Make sure to wear a helmet when participating in sporting events, even if one is not required by state law. Simply wearing a helmet greatly reduces your chances of facing a catastrophic injury.
  3. Take safety precautions related to the sport. Avoid dangerous activities related to your sport, whether it is diving headfirst or not adequately maintaining your vehicle. It also can prove helpful to retain a spotter.
  4. Follow all recommendations. Whether it is a posted sign or a recommended behavior, following these suggestions will keep you much safer.
