How to Reduce Your Chances of Being Killed in a Car Accident

Posted by Russell West | Jun 08, 2020 | 0 Comments

On May 11, One person was killed while another was injured in a three-vehicle accident that occurred near North Argonne Road and Bigelow Gulch Road in Spokane.

A law enforcement officer stated that a truck was heading south on Argonne Road when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with another vehicle that was traveling north.

Due to the collision, the truck collided with a third vehicle, which was also headed north. While the driver of the first vehicle was taken to a nearby medical facility, the third driver was killed. The driver of the second vehicle does not appear to have been injured.

The intersection was temporarily closed while law enforcement investigated the cause of the accident.

In the United States, car accidents are a common occurrence. Data shows that most people are involved in at least one accident by the time they reach 34. Over a person's life, this number increases to three or four. While many of these accidents will not involve fatalities, others inevitably will. To avoid becoming one of the people who die in a car accident, consider some helpful strategies.

Buckle Up

While you have likely heard this advice many times, one of the best things that you can do to stay safe is to wear your seatbelt. Even though many people know that seatbelts are a life-saving feature in nearly all vehicles, a staggering number of people do not wear seat belts. By wearing a seatbelt, your chances of staying safe during a car or truck accident increase substantially.

It is not enough to just wear a seatbelt, though. You must also make sure that the seat belt fits you properly. Many vehicles allow people to adjust the height of their belt. If an adjustment is not enough to make a belt fit properly or if your vehicle does not allow you to adjust the belt, it is possible to purchase an adjuster that holds the belt more securely.

Use Other Safety Features

If you are purchasing a motor vehicle, it is also a good idea to examine whether it is equipped with other safety features. While there are many features that people consider when purchasing vehicles, it is important to choose a safe vehicle. Safety standards in vehicles have progressed over the years. While back-up cameras are a common feature in many recent cars and trucks, they will become more common in the coming years.

Drive Defensively

It is always important to drive defensively. This driving strategy allows you to avoid and safely respond to various obstacles on the road. Defensive driving includes various strategies like paying attention, remaining at least two seconds behind all other vehicles on the road, keeping your emotions in control, and always obeying traffic regulations.
